I Am Second Life

What is Second Life? If one asks this question, one will receive multiple answers and nearly every one of them will be the right answer. Asking ‘what is Second Life?’ is like asking for the meaning of life. It’s all up to our interpretation and how we choose to immerse ourselves in this world. Here, we can be any and everything. We can restore abilities we’ve lost in our first life, and explore recreations of countries, towns, and cities we may never have a chance to visit. Some find love and build families while others live out their superstar dreams and sing live in concert.  Second life has many faces and in this exhibition I want to showcase how residents have built their avatars to express themselves. In this series, I wanted to capture the art of building one’s self from scratch. In our 1st life, DNA dictates how we look, and our own fears, cultures, and societal pressures dictate how we dress and style ourselves but here, we are in charge. This exhibition will not only focus on how residents have created their form but also showcase the many creators who have created skins, beauty marks, makeup, hair, piercings and so many other items which make us unique.
